About honestmidi.com
honestmidi.com publishes English-language guides about turning recorded audio into MIDI.
What this site is
It is a writing site. There is no converter here, no upload box, no account to create, and nothing to install. Every page is an article.
The first guide published here is MP3 to MIDI: The Honest Field Guide Nobody Asked For. It covers the practical side of audio-to-MIDI conversion: which tools exist and what they are built on, what the published accuracy figures actually mean, and the specific dependency, version and locale problems that show up in real use — including the ones that only appear after you have already installed everything.
Who it is for
If you are trying to get a recording into a DAW as MIDI — as a hobbyist, a student, or a developer building on top of these models — the aim is to give you the detail that product pages and official documentation tend to leave out.
The writing does not assume you already know what a dependency is, and it does not pretend that a conversion is finished when the file appears.
How the writing is put together
Guides here are written around specifics rather than generalities. Where the source material gives a version number, an error message, a benchmark score or a file size, that figure is quoted directly instead of being rounded into a vague claim. Where two sources disagree, both are shown and the disagreement is described rather than resolved silently.
That approach has a consequence worth stating plainly: not every question has an answer. Where something is untested or undocumented, the article says so rather than filling the gap with a plausible-sounding sentence.
Who runs this site
honestmidi.com is written and maintained by the honestmidi editor, an independent writer. It is not affiliated with any of the tools, models or vendors discussed in the articles.
